MAJOR FUNCTION
!!!!!! STORES AND CONCENTRATES BILE !!!!!
Three regions
Fundus, body and neck
From the liver
right and left hepatic ducts merge to form the common hepatic duct which splits into the cystic duct (leads to gallbladder) and the duodenal ampulla/papilla
Hepatopancreatic sphincter
CCK triggers release of bile from gallbladder
Storage and ejection of bile
1) the liver secretes bile continuously
2) as it remains in the gallbladder, bile becomes more concentrated
3) release of CCK triggers ejection of bile into the duodenum
4) bile salts break apart lipid droplets by emulsification
