What happens in photosynthesis.
Carbon dioxide and water are chemically reacted using the energy from light.
This produces the sugar glucose and the gas oxygen
Whats the first use for glucose
To release energy in respiration
Where does respiration take place
In the mitochondria
Whats second use of glucose.
To produce insoluble storage molecule starch
Starch can be converted back to glucose by the plant when it is needed e.g at night when they respire
Why is glucose converted to fats and oils in plants
Fats and oils are used by the plant as a storage form of energy
What is the cell wall
The plant cell is enclosed in a cell wall (outer layer) , the cell wall contains the molecule cellulose which gives it strength
This cellulose is made from the glucose produced by photosynthesis.
What are amino acids
They are produced by glucose, and they are used by the plant to synthesise proteins.
To make amino acids from glucose, plants need to absorb nitrate ions from the soil.
