This will be our last day of ELA review in Mr. Phelps' class before the Georgia Milestones assessments next week, and Mr. Phelps has a fun experiment for us to try. We will once again be doing independent silent reading of a Kessler Science article called Newton's First Law. This is one of the most fundamental laws o physics dealing with motion. Once students have read the article, they will independently and silently answer the reading comprehension questions, but then they can use the engagement cycle to discuss their answers with the students at their group table, getting feedback and revising. Then comes the really fun part, students will do an experiment that shows Newton's First Law by placing anot card an oa cup with a coin in the middle, then quickly pulling the card sideways and watching the coin drop straight down into the cup. This demonstrates how the coin remains at rest until the force of motion and gravity causes it to drop into the cup.
