Amputation
Loss of a body part (finger, toe, arm, etc.)
Avulsion
Tearing away of skin or a body part.
Laceration
A deep cut or tear in the skin.
Puncture
A small, deep wound (e.g., from a nail or needle).
Abrasion
A scrape on the skin surface.
Shock
A critical condition from lack of blood flow.
1st Degree Burn
Red, painful, no blisters (top layer of skin affected).
2nd Degree Burn
Blisters, red, swollen, and painful (deeper skin damage).
3rd Degree Burn
White/charred skin, may be painless (all skin layers destroyed).
Hypothermia
A dangerous drop in body temperature.
Hyperthermia
A dangerous rise in body temperature.
Frostbite
Freezing of skin and body tissues.
Sprain
Ligament stretched or torn.
Strain
Muscle or tendon stretched or torn.
Anaphylactic Shock
A severe allergic reaction causing airway swelling and shock.
Concussion
Mild traumatic brain injury.
Greenstick Fracture
Bone bends and cracks (common in children).
Open/Compound Fracture
Bone breaks through the skin.
Closed/Simple Fracture
Bone breaks but skin remains intact.
Comminuted Fracture
Bone shattered into multiple pieces.
Spiral Fracture
Twisting break pattern in the bone.
Compression Fracture
Bone is crushed.
Stress Fracture
A tiny crack in the bone from repetitive stress.
Colles Fracture
A fracture of the distal radius in the wrist.
Dislocation
Bone moves out of joint position.
Seizure
Uncontrolled electrical activity in the brain.
Hemorrhage
Severe, uncontrolled bleeding.
Heat Exhaustion
A milder form of heat-related illness.
Heat Stroke
Body overheating to a life-threatening level.
CVA (Stroke)
Brain damage from a blocked or burst blood vessel.
MI (Heart Attack)
Blood flow to the heart muscle is blocked.
Epistaxis
A nosebleed.
Poisonings
Harmful exposures to toxins (ingested, inhaled, injected, absorbed).
