Scientific Method

steps or procedures scientists use to learn about the natural world

Hypothesis

proposed scientific explanation for a set of observations; HAS to be a statement (if…., then….) or cause and effect

Variables

factors in an experiment that can change (3 TYPES)

Controlled Variable

stays the same in all trials; can be more than one; can’t be in hypothesis

Independent Variable

changed by the experimenter; the cause; can ONLY be 1; x-axis

Dependent Variable

observed and changed in response to the experiment; data; can ONLY be 1
