Intrapersonal
Relates to the relationship you have with yourself within your personal and social life.
Interpersonal
Relates to your relationships and interactions with others.
Self-awareness
Understanding your own thoughts, feelings, strengths, and needs; it is associated with improved emotional regulation (Kolathur and Murugesan 2025).
Self-acceptance
Accepting yourself with kindness and treating yourself with respect despite imperfections; vital for personal well-being.
Self-regulation
Managing your emotions, behaviors, and daily choices responsibly and with discipline.
Optimism
Maintaining hope and searching for solutions in the face of inevitable challenges.
Resilience
Using problem-solving and self-determination to bounce back from challenges and setbacks.
Approach coping (problem-focused)
Tackling the problem directly by making changes and acting in ways that address the stressor (Lazarus & Folkman, 1984).
Avoidance or emotion-focused coping
Managing feelings about a problem, such as distracting oneself or soothing discomfort, rather than changing the cause (Lazarus & Folkman, 1984).
Empathy
Putting yourself in the shoes of others and communicating that understanding so the other person feels heard and accepted.
Self-determination
Weighing consequences and principles before making a choice, as well as setting goals and aligning activities with them.
Grit
Defined by Angela Duckworth as "perseverance and passion for long-term goals."
Pomodoro technique
A method used to improve concentration alongside mindfulness.
Academic optimism
The mindset characterized by the belief: "This is challenging, but I can do it with effort and support."
Self-advocacy
Speaking up for your needs and seeking support when necessary, as discussed by Ryan and Deci.
Digital competence
Using technology wisely, safely, and responsibly.
Digital literacy
The capacity to find, evaluate, and use information effectively.
Empathic accuracy
A skill linked to greater satisfaction in adolescent romantic relationships.
