zeus

- emblems : eagle, woodpecker, thunderbolt
- god of the sky
- strong, brave, stupid, noisy, conceited, violent

hera

- emblems : cow, peacock, lion
- mother of heaven
- zeus tricked her into marrying him by disguising himself as a cuckoo bird in a storm. since hera likes cuckoos, he got her to let him in and she said i love you to the bird. he transformed back and then said now she has to marry him.
- wants to be a good example to the gods, goddesses, and mortals (because of zeus's behavior)

poseidon

- emblems : horse, trident
- god of the sea, water, and rivers
- scared of zeus's thunderbolt
- large waves were called white horses because of him

demeter

- emblem : poppy
- goddess of fruit, grasses, and grains
- hades took her daughter persephone (know the whole story)
- winter is when persephone is gone, summer is when she is with her

hephaestus

- emblem : quail
- god of goldsmiths, jewllers, blacksmiths, masons, and carpenters
- hobbled since birth because zeus threw him off mount olympus

athene (athena)

- emblem : wise owl
- goddess of wisdom, battle-goddess
- lets zeus pretend she is his daughter, even though poseidon had claimed her as his daughter (probably prefers zeus)
- sprang out of zeus's head when he had a bad headache

aphrodite

- emblem : dove
- goddess of love and beauty
- has a magic girdle which can make anyone fall madly in love with her
- unhappily married to hephaestus because of zeus, zeus thought aphrodite was so wild that hephaestus had to keep her in check
- eros is her son

ares

- emblems : wild boar, bloodstained spear
- god of war
- liked aphrodite
- cruel, boastful, likes to fight
- throne of human skin

apollo

- emblem : mouse
- god of music, poetry, medicine, archery, and young unmarried men
- has a golden sundisk over his throne because he likes to pretend he manages the sun

artemis

- emblem : she-bear
- goddess of hunting and unmarried girls
- hated the idea of marriage but took care of mothers nonetheless

hermes

- emblems : crane, peeled hazel stick
- god of merchants, bankers, theieves, fortune tellers, and heralds
- thought to have invented the alphabet

hestia

- didn't choose an emblem
- goddess of the Home
- kindest and most peaceful

dionysus

- emblem : tiger
- god of wine
- hestia offered him her seat because thirteen olympians would be an unlucky number. this reflected on gender power rules afterwards as there would be 7 gods and 5 goddesses
