Medial
Toward the midline of the body.

Below or toward the feet.
Anterior
Toward the front of the body.
Posterior
Toward the back of the body.

Closer to the point of attachment or origin.
Distal
Farther from the point of attachment or origin.
Superficial
Closer to the surface of the body.
Deep
Farther from the surface of the body.
Midsagittal plane
A vertical plane that divides the body into equal right and left halves.
Parasagittal plane
A vertical plane that divides the body into unequal right and left portions.
Frontal (coronal) plane
A plane that divides the body into anterior (front) and posterior (back) portions.
Transverse (horizontal) plane
A plane that divides the body into superior (upper) and inferior (lower) portions.
