High level of unemployment amongst workers. Wages didn’t keep pace with rising prices of consumer goods. Many remained poor and couldn’t get jobs

Led by T, Z+K wanted to end NEP (too capitalist) and go for rapid industrialisation. Militarisation of labour would squeeze out more grain
