Persistent depressive disorder specifiers

With anxious distress

Anxiety symptoms (mild, moderate, severe)

With atypical features

Depression includes symptoms that are opposite of typical depression. (sleeping more than usual)

In partial remission

The depression has improved, but some symptoms are still present

In full remission

the depression has gone away, but the diagnosis is still noted because the person had it before and could relapse

Early onset

Depression started before age 21

Late onset

Depression started at age 21 or later

With pure dysthymic syndrome

Has chronic low mood for 2 years but no major depressive episodes during that time

With persistent major depressive episode

the person has had a full major depressive episode that has lasted 2 years or more, no break in symptoms

with intermittent major depressive episodes, with current episode

the person has had chronic depression, with some breaks, and is currently having a major depressive episode

with intermittent major depressive episodes, without current episode

the person has had major depressive episodes on and off but is not currently in one
