full valence shell, found as single atoms (monoatomic), and are colorless/tasteless/odorless/non flammable and are located in the far right column on the periodic table
nonmetals
located on the upper right side of the periodic table, and also hydrogen
fact
basic statement established by experiment or observation (true under those conditions)
hypothesis
tentative educated prediction or guess about what will happen in an experiment
theory
a widely accepted explanation for why something happens in the realm of science. supported by much and many, but can change if something is discovered that it cannot explain
law
explain what happens as opposed to why it does (often an equation for an observed pattern)
pure substance
elements (1+ of the same atom) and compounds- chemically bonded together
homogenous mixture
elements and/or compounds that are only physically mixed, but so uniformly so that it still appears uniform under the microscope
heterogenous mixture
either by eye or microscope, is not uniformly mixed
