What is underscore?
This is any music that is added to the form of media, it can be original music created specifically for the media or it can be music that already exists in its own right, and that is repurposed.
What is original music?
Music that is composed specifically for a form of media.
What is pre-existing music?
Music that is not composed specifically for a form of media.
What are the advantages of original music?
Will match actions/emotions on screen.
Composer will receive royalties for use of music.
What are the disadvantages of original music?
May require external composer.
Takes time and money.
What are the advantages of pre-existing music?
Takes less time.
Consumers will be familiar with music.
Could attract target audience to engage with media.
What are the disadvantages of pre-existing music?
Might not be possible to get license to use music you want.
Can be expensive to obtain license.
May require editing to match actions/emotions.
