Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

A process followed throughout the development of a program by all individuals involved in its creation.

Purpose of SDLC

Ensures that GOOD programs are created.

Characteristics of Good Programs

Programs that fully meet the requirements, are efficient, and work properly - don't have errors.

Five Steps of the SDLC

1. Analyse user requirements, 2. Design the program, 3. Code the program, 4. Document and test the system, 5. Operate and maintain the system.

Step 1: Problem Definition and Analysis

The identification and analysis of the problem being solved.

Questions to Organize a Problem Thoroughly

Questions asked in Step 1: 1. What are we being asked to solve? 2. Are there any constraints stopping us from solving the problem? 3. What are the expected inputs and outputs?

Activities in Step 1 (Problem Definition and Analysis)

Phase activities involving: Gathering information, Defining System Requirements, Prioritizing Requirements, and Generate and Evaluate Alternatives.
