1
New cards

organic compounds

Compounds that contain carbon

2
New cards

FCP- what is the 10% due to the fact that

they respire , they have waste ,they move

3
New cards

ecosystems

animals and plants that live within an area

4
New cards

community

plants and animals

5
New cards

abiotic

Non-living

6
New cards

biotic

living

7
New cards

biodiversity

range of animals that live in a habitat

8
New cards

decay/decomposition

break down organic matter

9
New cards

give a basic food chain

sun providing energy -> plants that have grown->eaten by animals->animals and plants eaten by humans

10
New cards

FCP- what are the levels called

trophic levels

11
New cards

FCP- how would they be ordered by number

put the number of things that eat the things below it

12
New cards

FCP- how would they be ordered by biomass

number of mass of the stuff that's being eaten

13
New cards

how do humans affect biodiversity

chop down trees to plant same crops over and over
we chop down trees to build cities

14
New cards

what three factors affect food security in the UK

climate
trade
transport

15
New cards

what two factors affect food production in the UK

yield
production methods

16
New cards

what three factors should we consider for fisheries

net size (are we catching fish that are too young
line caught
quotas (what fish are they catching and are they at risk of going extinct

17
New cards

microorganism -use and what they do

can develop food through culturing microorganisms
help decay food and break it down so it can be recycled

18
New cards

what three factors affect decomposition

temperature water and oxygen levels

19
New cards

Describe the carbon cycle

1.Organic compounds in fossil fuels are burnt
2.this releases C02 in the air and oceans
3.organic compounds in plants take this CO2 in the air through photosynthesis and release it with respiration
4.these plants get eaten by animals which also respire and die
5.This releases organic compound in dead animals and plants
6.Theses then get sedimented and or buried which can then be turned into fossil fuels which contain organic compounds

20
New cards

describe the water cycle

1.Heat energy from the sun heats up the water
2.The water evaporates and condenses to form clouds
3.These clouds then become heavy with water
4.This is then turning into precipitation
5.This either percolates in the mountains and exist as rivers which then through flows or go directly on the soil and be ground run off
6.The plants then can take up water for photosynthesis an transpire the water straight into the atmosphere or this water goes back into the large volume of water

21
New cards

describe the nitrogen cycle

1.nitrogen is converted into nitrates by lighting the Haber process or nitrifying bacteria
2.this then goes into the root nodules of legumes
3.these then get eaten by animals
4.tehses animals release compounds by urine faeces or death
5.then denitrifying bacteria turn it back into nitrogen gas
