Morphogenic Science
Studying single people, promoted by Gordon Allport.
Personal Dispositions
Generalized neuropsychic structure particular to the individual that makes an individual who they are.
Cardinal Disposition
A dominant personal disposition that can be seen in every behavior (unlikely).
Central Disposition
5-10 individual traits around which a person’s life focuses.
Secondary Disposition
Least characteristic and reliable personal disposition that can show up in certain situations.
Motivational Dispositions
Derived from basic needs and drives; intensely felt; initiate actions.
Stylistic Dispositions
Less intense but still motivating, guide our actions.
Proprium
Characteristics that people see as particularly their own How we understand ourselves.
Peripheral Motivations
Motives that aim to reduce a need.
Propriate Strivings
Motives that seek to maintain tension and disequilibrium (helps with growth).
Functional Autonomy
Tendency for some motives to become independent from the original motive responsible for the behavior.
Perseverative Functional Autonomy
Habits that continue in spite of their initial motivator (addictions).
Propriate Functional Autonomy
Self-sustaining motives related to the proprium that support underlying values.
Extrinsic Religious Orientation
Using religion as a means to an end, often utilitarian.
Intrinsic Religious Orientation
Finding life meaning through faith and connecting needs to faith.
Type (Eysenck)
A cluster or primary traits. SUPERFACTOR
Eysenck's Factor E
Extraversion. Extroverts have sociability, impulsiveness and quick wit. Introverts have unsociability and caution.
Eysenck's Factor N
Neuroticism. More prone to anxiety, hysteria, OCD, criminality. Low score means better at handling stress.
Eysenck's Factor P
Psychoticism. Higher scores = psychotic, hostile, self-centered, impulsive.
FFM
Five Factor Model - only the five traits.
FFT
Five Factor Theory - McCrae and Costas theory for assessing personality
CAPS Model
Cognitive-Affective Personality System. Focuses on psychological features of situations and 'if-then' profiles.
Manifest Content
Surface meaning or conscious description of the dream.
Latent Content
The underlying, unconscious meaning of a dream revealed via dream interpretation.
Dreamwork
Exploration of the images and emotions that a dream presents and evokes.
Striving for Success/Superiority (Adler)
One dynamic motivational force behind people's behavior; healthy vs. neurotic.
