Prokaryotes
Single-celled organisms that do not have a membrane-bound nucleus.
Methanogens
Group of Archaea that convert hydrogen gas and carbon dioxide into methane gas, thriving in oxygen-free environments.
Halophiles
Salt-loving archaea that live in environments with very high salt concentrations.
Thermoacidophiles
Archaea that live in very acidic environments with high temperatures, such as hot springs.
Bacilli
Rod-shaped bacteria.
Cocci
Sphere-shaped bacteria.
Spirilla
Spiral-shaped bacteria.
Gram Stain
A laboratory technique used to differentiate and identify bacteria based on their cell wall structure.
Gram Negative
Bacteria that appear reddish in color due to their cell wall structure.
Gram Positive
Bacteria that appear purple due to their cell wall structure.
Proteobacteria
One of the largest and most diverse groups of bacteria, which can be aerobic or anaerobic.
Cyanobacteria
Photosynthetic bacteria that produce oxygen as a waste product and contribute significantly to ecosystems.
Spirochetes
Gram-negative, spiral-shaped bacteria that can live freely or as pathogens.
