Perceptual processes
The means by which people receive, select, modify, and organize stimulation from the world.
Sensory systems
The systems that allow organisms to sense and react to their environment through different types of stimuli.
Habituation
A decrease in response to a stimulus after repeated presentations.
Visual acuity
The clarity or sharpness of vision, measured by the ability to discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
Auditory threshold
The quietest sound that a person can hear.
Size constancy
The understanding that an object remains the same size even though it appears smaller when it is farther away.
Dynamic systems theory
A perspective on motor development that views development as a process of coordination of many components.
Attention networks
Systems within the brain that manage focus, orienting, and alertness.
Intermodal perception
The ability to integrate information from different sensory modalities.
Fine-motor skills
The ability to make small, precise movements, often involving the hands and fingers.
Newborns have a good sense of:
Smell, taste, and touch.
Adults have a better sense of _________ than newborns
Hearing and vision
Intersensory redundancy theory
Infants prefer amodal information presented in multiple sensory modes. Prior theories thought infants had only individual sensory capacities.
can Infants recognise depth?
Yes, at 1.5 months. They fear it at 7 months.
