Multimodal Text

Texts that exceed the alphabetical and may include still and moving images, animations, color, words, music, and sound; a piece of communication that can take many forms.

Linguistic Mode

Refers to alphabetic text or spoken word, emphasizing language and how verbal and written words are used.

Spatial Mode

Refers to the arrangement of elements in space and how other modes are arranged, organized, emphasized, and contrasted in a text.

Gestural Mode

Refers to gesture and movement, including facial expressions, hand gestures, and body language.

Aural Mode

Refers to what an audience can hear and cannot hear, such as music, silence, ambient noises, tone of voice, and accent.

Paper-based Multimodal Text

Includes posters, books, drawings, picture books, and manga.

Digital Multimodal Text

Includes film, slideshows, e-books, websites, and infographics.

Live Multimodal Text

Includes stage plays and concerts.
