Opioid Analgesics

Block pain messages sent from the body through the spinal cord to the brain, for severe pain, addictive

Nonopioid analgesics

Block nerve signals that send the feeling of pain from the site of injury to the brain, for mild pain

Antidepressant

Increases available norepinephrine and serotonin, which blocks pain transmission and increase sense of well being

Anticonvulsant

Suppress the excessive rapid firing of neurons during seizures.

Antimigraine

Stops severe headaches that cause throbbing, pulsing head pain on one side of your head.

Sedative

Disrupts certain nerve communications in your central nervous system, calming, helps sleep

Opioid Overdose drug

Blocks opioid drugs within minutes and stops the opioid overdose system

Opioid Analgesics example

Oxycontin, Percodan, Percocet, Vicodin, Dilaudid, Demerol, Morphine, Fentanyl, Tylenol with codeine

Nonopioid analgesics example
