Junior Operator
A person between the ages of 161/2 and 18 years old holding a permit or license.
Driving Without a Licensed Driver (Permit)
A violation of c. 90, §8B resulting in a 60-day suspension for a first offense, 180 days for a second offense, and one year for subsequent offenses.
Night Restriction Violation (Permit)
A conviction under c. 90, §10 or §8B leading to permit suspensions of 60 days (first offense), 180 days (second offense), or one year (subsequent offenses).
Speeding (Junior Operator)
A violation under c. 90, §17, §17A, or §18 resulting in a 90-day suspension for the first offense and a one-year suspension for subsequent offenses.
Drag Racing (Junior Operator)
A violation of c. 90, §17B resulting in a one-year suspension for the first offense and a three-year suspension for subsequent offenses.
Use of a Mobile Electronic Device (c. 90, §8M)
A conviction for texting or phone use resulting in a 60-day (first), 180-day (second), or one-year (subsequent) suspension.
Negligent Operation and Injury from Mobile Phone Use
A violation of c. 90, §24 resulting in a 180-day suspension for a first offense and a one-year suspension for subsequent offenses.
Reinstatement Fee for Speeding
A 500 fee required for both permit and license holders to regain driving privileges after a speeding conviction.
Reinstatement Fee for Drag Racing
A 500 fee for the first offense and a 1000 fee for second or subsequent offenses.
SCARR
State Courts Against Road Rage; a course required for Junior Operators for certain categories of motor vehicle violations.
Massachusetts General Laws chapter 90, section 24P
A law requiring an additional 180-day (first offense) or one-year (subsequent offense) suspension for Junior Operators convicted of serious offenses like OUI or Leaving the Scene of a Crash.
Driver Attitudinal Retraining Course
A required course for various Junior Operator offenses, including second-offense permit violations and all license-level speeding or drag racing convictions.
