Replication Fork
The Y-shaped region where DNA is split into two strands during replication.
Helicase
An enzyme that unwinds the DNA double helix ahead of the replication fork.
Replication Bubble
A region where the DNA strands have separated and replication is occurring.
DNA Polymerase
An enzyme that synthesizes a new strand of DNA by adding nucleotides complementary to the template strand.
Ligase
An enzyme that fuses sugars and phosphates together on the new strand of DNA.
Nucleotides
The basic building blocks of DNA, composed of adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine.
Replication Levels
Multiple initiation points during DNA replication to increase the efficiency of copying long DNA molecules.
Adenine (A)
One of the four nucleotides in DNA, pairing with thymine.
Cytosine (C)
One of the four nucleotides in DNA, pairing with guanine.
