What is a ratio?
A comparison between two or more things
What are the 3 ways to show a ratio?
A fraction 1/2, colon 1:2, or words 1 to 2
Why is a slope considered a ratio?
It compares rise to run
What is a proportion ?
A statement of equality between two or more ratios (can be more)
What is an expanded ratio?
A ratio that has three or more numbers
What is a scale drawing?
Its a representation of an object as smaller or larger than its actual size
What is a scale?
The ratio of any length in a drawing to the corresponding actual length
What is an image?
The image after the transformation and its labeled using ‘. Ex: ABC would be A’B’C
What is the center of dilation?
A fixed point that all points are expanded or shrunk by a specific factor. The point can be inside or outside the figure.
What will a scale factor always be?
A ratio
What does enlargement mean?
The figure is bigger than its original image
What is reduction?
The figure is smaller than its original image
What are polygons?
A shape that has straight sides. The sides connect at corners to make a closed figure.
What are similar figures?
Figures that look alike and there is a common ratio between the sides
What is a similarity statement?
Triangle —- similar to Triangle ——, it shows that the figures are similar
What is the symbol for scale factor and dilation?
K
What is Angle-Angle Similarly Postulate (AA)?
If 2 angles of a triangle are congruent to the corresponding angles of another triangle (2 angles need to be congruent)
What does Side-Side-Side Similarity Postulate (Theorem) (SSS) mean?
If 3 sides of a triangle are proportional to the corresponding sides of an another triangle (3 sides in a triangle are congruent)
What does Side-Angle-Side Similarity Postulate (Theorem) (SAS) mean?
It can mean that either the angles and sides have to be congruent or just the sides proportional (similarly way). It has to have two sides between an angle
How do you know that shapes with 4+ sides are going to be similar?
Congruent angles and the sides have to be proportional
What can we use if we know two figures are similar?
Proportions to solve for unknown measurements
What do parallel lines do?
Cut shapes and sides proportionally
What can you do with parallel lines that you cant do for ones that arent?
You can do what you want to happen because you already know that they’re congruent and or the same bc of the parallel lines
