berlin airlift

Suez Crisis
(EIsenhower) Egypt sized canal from Britain and France. GB/France/Israel team up to attack Egypt. US didn’t help GB/France so they left and the UN sent peacekeepers/policy to end and sort out the conflict (fear that Egypt would turn communist if US intervened)
Hungarian uprising

difference of diff presidents
Truman wanted to contain communism + prevent spread - launched popularity. Direct aggressive - korean war. Economic and military aid
Eisenhower also liked containment but wanted things related to massive retaliation + New Look Policy. Secret - U2 spy planes, CIA interventions, built up military arsenal. Didn’t do direct
JFK did not want to rely on nuclear weapons with Flexible Response Plan, Peace Corps (young people which helped people in the world)
U2 Situation
(Eisenhower) U2 planes are spy planes that could take photos + hard to shoot down (high up). Eventually lucky enough to shoot down and crashed - Eisenhower lied said it was a weatherplane. Khrushchev and Eisenhower were going to meet up but now they didn’t
