Neutrality Act of 1935
U.S. government prohibited the sale of war goods to countries at war
Neutrality Act of 1946
Banks weren’t allowed to loan money to any country involved in war
Neutrality Act of 1937
Ended the two previous neutrality acts (1935+1936). Any merchant can sell to any country, at war or not, as long as that country pays in cash and can transport the goods in a non-American vessel.
Destroyers for bases
America gave Britain 50 destroyers and exchange they got access to the war bases in Canada and in the Caribbean
Selective training and Service Act
This is the first time that the U.S. instituted a peacetime military draft. 90,000 men were drafted and were enlisted in one year of training and service. They could only serve in the Western Hemisphere or U.S. territories.
Pacific Fleet Move
The U.S. pacific fleet (basically the U.S. navy) was forced to move from San Diego to Pearl Harbor
Export Control Act of 1940
Forbid the exportation of aircraft parts, chemicals, scrap metals, and minerals without a liscense
Election of 1940
FDR won by a landslide and he had promised to stay out of the war and not intervene with military
Aid to the Chinese
U.S. formalized aid to the Chinese and extended credits for the purchase of war supplies. At the same time it was starting to tighten restrictions on Japan.
Arsenal of Democracy
FDR allowed American factories to produce weapons as long as they went to the Allied powers because the Allied powers would protect the U.S.
Four Freedoms Speech
FDR gave this speech saying that everyone in the world should be allowed the freedom of speech, worship, from want, and from fear.
Lend-Lease Act
U.S. factories were allowed to manufacture, sell, lend, transfer, and/or exchange weapons to countries that the president deemed vital in protecting the U.S.
Seizure of Japanese assets and oil embargo
FDR froze the Japanese assets in America and didn’t trade them oil because Japan was encroaching on an occupation in Southeast Asia
Atlantic Charter
A statement that outlined the U.S. and Britain goals for the end of WW2, there were eight of them
Pearl Harbor Attack
Japan attacked American and Britain military bases including Pearl Harbor, FDR said that this was an attack of war because it was completely unproved, then declared war a few days later on Dec 11
