What is the definition of a drug?
A drug is any substance that when taken changes the way the body or mind works.
How are depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens defined based on their effects?
Depressants slow down messages between the brain and body; stimulants speed up the brain and body; hallucinogens change the way a person sees, hears, and feels (e.g., LSD, magic mushrooms).
Which substance is identified as acting as a depressant, hallucinogen, and stimulant?
Cannabis.
What are four reasons listed for why people use drugs?
Peer pressure, curiosity, stress/escape, and fun/experimentation.
What seven major factors contribute to road injury?
Speeding, drink driving, fatigue, poor road conditions, bad vehicle maintenance, no seatbelt/helmet, and influence of drugs.
What measures are listed for minimising harm in road safety?
Having roundabouts, rumble strips, school zones, pedestrian zones, air bags, and lane keep assist.
What is the definition of nutrition?
The process used by organisms to obtain and use food for growth and energy (e.g., digestion, absorption of fats, proteins, vitamins, etc.).
How is conflict defined in the notes?
A disagreement or argument between two or more people.
What are the four types of conflict identified in the notes?
Intrapersonal (conflict within oneself), Interpersonal (conflict between 2 people), Intragroup (conflict within a group), and Intergroup (conflict between different groups).
What are the four conflict management strategies and their explanations?
Avoiding (ignore the conflict), Compromising (both give up something), Accommodation (giving in to keep the peace), and Competing (trying to win the argument).
What are the four response styles and their definitions?
Assertive (standing up for yourself), Aggressive (dominating/attacking), Passive Aggressive (express anger indirectly), and Passive (not expressing your feelings).
What are the Seven As in a good apology?
Address Everyone Involved (apologise to all affected), Avoid using "if, but maybe" (take full responsibility), Admit Specifically (name what you did wrong), Acknowledge the hurt (show understanding to the hurt), Accept consequences (be willing to make it right), Alter behaviour (commit to change), and Ask for forgiveness (seek reconciliation).
What is assertiveness, and what does the acronym AAURA stand for?
Assertiveness is speaking up for yourself with confidence and respect. AAURA stands for: A = Acknowledge what's happening, U = Use "I" statements to share how you feel, R = Reaffirm your decision clearly, A = Assert yourself in a calm, respectful way.
What function do beliefs and values serve?
They act as a moral compass.
