Secularism rose with more secular seminaries. Jesuits and Dominicans were against this and plotted to assassinate the king. They were banned and exiled so they went to Russia under Queen Catherine. After the ban was lifted, secular priests in the Philippines (mostly Filipinos) fought with regular priests (mostly Spaniards) for administration of the parochial church.
