Khalifah

An Arabic word used to refer to a ruler in an Islamic state, translated to mean 'successor' or 'deputy'.

Khulafa-e-Rashideen

Translated to mean 'the rightly guided Caliphs', referring only to the first 4 successors because they are the only ones who truly followed the Prophet's commands.

Abu Bakr (R.a)

One of the first 4 Khalifahs whose words forced the community to deal with the fact that while the Prophet was central to Islam, God is the focus of worship and strength for Muslims.

Dawah

The act of spreading the message of Islam, best performed when character, deeds, and actions reflect the teachings of the deen.

Ummah

The community of Muslims, whose members have a responsibility to use all resources to spread the message of Islam.

The Farewell Revelation

The final speech delivered by the Prophet (saw) during Hajj while surrounded by many companions.

9th Dhul Hijjah 10AH

The date when the Prophet (saw) delivered his final sermon at Mount Arafah in Makkah during the only Hajj he performed in his lifetime.

Mount Arafah

The location in Makkah where the Prophet (saw) delivered his final sermon during Hajj.

Quran and Sunnah

The foundational Islamic sources of guidance; following them ensures that a Muslim will never go astray.

Usury

A practice that Muslims are explicitly instructed to keep away from as part of their religious conduct.
