Anthropometric Assessment
A method of nutritional assessment that involves measuring the physical dimensions and composition of the human body to assess the growth, development, and nutritional status of individuals.
Body Weight
The measurement of an individual’s total body mass.
Height
The measurement of stature.
Body Mass Index
A calculation based on weight divided by height squared.
Mid-Upper Arm Circumference
Used to assess muscle mass and subcutaneous fat.
Less than 11.5
The measurement of MUAC with a color zone of red indicating severe acute malnutrition and the need for immediate referral of the child to the nearest health center for needed therapeutic feeding.
11.5 - 12.5
The measurement of MUAC with a color zone of yellow indicating moderate acute malnutrition and the need immediate referral to the nearest health center for supplementary feeding.
More than 12.5
The measurement of MUAC with a color zone of green indicating normal nutritional status with only the need to encourage current feeding practices.
