Components of Poetry

Quatrain

is a unit or group of four lines of verse

Couplet

is two successive lines of verse forming a unit marked by rhythmic correspondence, rhyme, or the inclusion of a self contained utterance

Stanza

is a division of a poem consisting of a series of lines arranged together in a usually recurring pattern of meter and rhyme

Verse

writing arranged with a metrical rhythm, typically having a rhyme

Theme

is the underlying message that the writer or artists wants to convey

Speaker

is someone who is the voice of the poem

Persona

refers to the narrator or speaker of the poem, not to be confused with the author- a narrative voice other than the poet tell the entire poem.
