What does the law of electric charges state?
Like charges repel and opposite charges attract.
What happens to charged objects when they gain or lose electrons?
They become charged.
What is static electricity?
The buildup of electric charges on an object, which is lost through electric discharge.
What are the main components of an electric circuit?
An energy source, a load, wires, and possibly a switch.
What is the difference between a series circuit and a parallel circuit?
In a series circuit, all parts are connected in a single loop; in a parallel circuit, parts are on separate branches.
What is the role of fuses and circuit breakers in electric circuits?
They protect against circuit failure.
What is a magnetic pole?
One of two points, such as the ends of a magnet, that have opposing magnetic qualities.
Who discovered that a wire carrying a current creates a magnetic field?
Oersted.
What is Ohm's law?
It describes the relationship between current, resistance, and voltage.
What does an electromagnet consist of?
A solenoid that has an iron core.
What is electromagnetic induction?
The process of making an electric current by changing a magnetic field.
What device converts mechanical energy into electrical energy?
An electric generator.
What is electric power?
The rate at which electrical energy is converted into other forms of energy.
Define resistance in physical science.
The opposition presented to the current by a material or device.
What is the definition of electric discharge?
The release of electricity stored in a source.
What is a transformer used for?
To increase or decrease the voltage of alternating current.
