produce collagen fibers that bridge the gap.

phagocytize (remove) cell debris

What happens to the surface epithelial cells?
multiply and migrate over the granulation tissue

What is the final stage of tissue repair?
Regeneration and fibrosis

What happens to the fibrosed area?
matures and contracts, causing the epithelium to thicken.

What is the result of tissue repair?
fully regenerated epithelium with an underlying scar tissue results.
