What did Raven want to test?

• Fluid intelligence- ability to solve new problems without prior experience or schooling.

• Crystallised intelligence- based on what you’ve learned and remember e.g. history, spelling, memory.

What are the 3 formats of Raven’s Progressive Matrices?

1. Colour progressive matrices (typically for 4-7 year olds, the elderly and those with learning/mental difficulties)

2. Standard progressive matrices (typically for 7-18 year olds)

3. Advanced progressive matrices (18+ year olds)

Why’s it a good thing that it’s non-verbal?

It’s useful for children or those with language or perceptual difficulties.
