Anterior abdominal wall
A gross anatomy topic involving the surface anatomy and structural layers of the front of the abdomen.
Inguinal canal
A passage in the lower abdominal wall associated with the development of male and female genitalia and the spermatic cord.
Peritoneum
A serous membrane of the abdominal cavity characterized by its general arrangement, pouches, recesses, spaces, and gutters.
Hepatic portal system
The venous system that drains blood from the gastrointestinal tract and spleen to the liver.
Hepatic biliary system
The duct system of the liver and gall bladder.
Foregut, Midgut, and Hindgut
The three primary embryological divisions in the development of the GIT.
Histology of the GIT
The microscopic study of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and large intestine.
Deglutition
The physiological process of swallowing, studied in conjunction with mastication.
Mechanism of gastric acid secretion
The physiological control and production of HCl within the stomach.
Pancreatic juice
A secretion studied for its composition, function, and regulation in GIT physiology and biochemistry.
Cori's cycle
A biochemical pathway involving gluconeogenesis and the recycling of lactate between muscle and liver.
HMP Shunt
Hexose Monophosphate Shunt, a biochemical pathway involved in carbohydrate metabolism.
Glycogenesis and Glycogenolysis
The processes of glycogen synthesis and breakdown, including the regulation of glycogen metabolism and storage diseases.
Urea cycle
The biochemical process of converting ammonia to urea to prevent ammonia intoxication.
Liver Function Tests (LFTs)
Clinical estimations including serum urea, Albumin: Globulin ratio, direct and indirect serum bilirubin, and interpretation of PT and APTT.
Aromatic and Sulphur containing Amino Acids
Specific categories of amino acids whose metabolism is studied in GIT biochemistry.
Congenital Abnormalities of GIT
The study of birth defects affecting the gastrointestinal tract in pathology.
Hepatitis
