Democracy

Type of government where the people can elect their leaders.

Autocracy

Type of government where one person makes all of the decisions and has absolute power.

Presidential Democracy

Type of democracy where the citizens directly elect the leader (president) and legislature.

Parliamentary Democracy

Type of government where the people elect members of the legislature who then choose the leader (prime minister).

Citizen

A member of a town, state, country who has certain rights and responsibilities.

Chief Executive

The head of government. In charge of day-to-day operations of the government (enforcing the laws)

Head of State

Represents the nation as a symbolic leader. Has little power.

Legislative Branch

The branch of government that makes the laws of the country.
