What was thought to be the four causes of Generalized Anxiety Disorder?

Explain the psychoanalytic approach for GAD
Freud thought it was because of high anxiety or poor defense mechanisms, the treatment he believed was to control the Id.
Explain the biological approach for GAD
It was thought that GAD was caused because of problems with the GABA system. GABA is inhibitory, so the treatment is anti-anxiety drugs like benzodiazepines but the problem with these are that they are addictive. Another treatment option is antidepressants or antipsychotics or another option of treatment is relaxation training, which is more effective than a placebo or no treatment at all.

What is agoraphobia?
It is the fear of being in a situation where you fear you can't escape in the event of a panic attack
What causes phobias?
The best evidence is that it is a learnt behavioural model. It can be developed through classical conditioning and modeling. Phobias are maintained through avoidance. However the newer model shows that species-specific phobias are a biological predisposition to develop certain fears.
