1C3X1 Skill Level 1 (Helper)
Identifies personnel initially classified into the career field when entering the Air Force or when retraining.
1C3X1 Skill Level 3 (Apprentice)
Identifies airmen who have obtained basic knowledge within an AFSC affording the individuals a foundation to build upon.
1C3X1 Skill Level 5 (Journeyman)
Identifies airmen who, through experience and training, have demonstrated skilled proficiency in their AFSC.
1C3X1 Skill Level 7 (Craftsman)
Identifies airmen who have gained a high degree of technical knowledge and acquired supervisory capability; awarded to SSgt through MSgt.
1C3X1 Skill Level 9 (Superintendent)
The highest skill level awarded in a career field, identifying airmen who have shown a high degree of knowledge through experience and performance.
HURCON 5
Indicates 96 hours prior to the forecast arrival of a hurricane.
HURCON 1
Indicates 12 hours prior to the forecast arrival of a hurricane.
Special Individual Assistance (SIA)
One-on-one instruction and assistance performed outside of normal training times for students performing poorly or after test failure.
Comprehensive Airman Fitness (CAF)
A program based on four pillars: Mental, Physical, Social, and Spiritual to create a fit, resilient, and ready force.
Resiliency
The ability to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties or tough times.
Command and Control (C2)
The exercise of authority and direction by a properly designated commander over assigned and attached forces in the accomplishment of the mission.
Commander-in-Chief (CINC)
The President of the United States (POTUS), who has final word of command authority to ensure Armed Forces remain under civilian control.
National Military Command System (NMCS)
The President's C2 System designed to support POTUS, SECDEF, and JCS; its priority component is the Global Information Grid (GIG).
National Military Command Center (NMCC)
The NMCS primary command node located in the Pentagon.
National Airborne Operations Center (NAOC)
A fleet of modified Boeing 747-200B aircraft (E−4Bs) serving as a survivable airborne backup to the NMCS.
USSTRATCOM Airborne Command Post (ABNCP)
A fleet of modified Boeing 707 aircraft (E−6B) carrying the 'Looking Glass' mission as a survivable backup to the Global Operations Center.
Combatant Commander (CCDR)
The commander of a unified or specified combatant command.
Unified Command Plan (UCP)
The document that sets forth basic guidance to all CCDRs, establishing missions, responsibilities, and geographic areas of responsibility.
Joint Task Force (JTF)
A joint force command established to accomplish limited objectives, normally of an operational nature, and dissolved when the mission is complete.
NATO
An alliance of 32 countries from North America and Europe committed to the principle of collective defense.
Mission Command
A leadership philosophy empowering Airmen to operate in uncertain environments through trust, shared awareness, and decentralized execution based on Commander’s intent.
Wing Commander (WG/CC)
The officer, normally a Colonel or Brigadier General, who commands the wing, base, and all associated resources.
Specialty Training Standard (STS)
A checklist of training items required to acquire a specific skill level; identifies knowledge level and task requirements.
Initial Qualification Training (IQT)
Training that provides a practical overview of the 1C3 AFS and necessary training to attain initial qualification prior to unsupervised duties.
Mission Qualification Training (MQT)
Mission-specific training for PCSing or PCAing members who have previously completed IQT at a separate location.
Continuation Training (CT)
Training aimed at maintaining essential qualifications and increasing proficiency through self-study, training events, and assessments.
Specialty Duty Assignment Pay (SDAP)
A monetary incentive for Airmen in duties designated as extremely difficult or involving an unusual degree of military skill.
Selective Reenlistment Bonus (SRB)
A monetary incentive for Airmen who reenlist in identified career fields with manning shortfalls.
Integrated Deterrence
Working across warfighting domains, theaters, national power instruments, and alliances to reduce competitors' perceptions of the benefits of aggression.
Joint Planning Process (JPP)
A deliberate process determining how to use military capabilities (means) in time and space (ways) to achieve objectives (ends).
Pacing Threat
A description of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) as the United States’ number one global military power competitor.
Agile Combat Employment (ACE)
An operational scheme of maneuver to increase survivability while generating combat power by shifting from centralized infrastructure to dispersed locations.
Multi-Capable Airmen (MCA)
Airmen trained in expeditionary skills outside of their core specialty to provide support to ACE force elements.
AFFORGEN
The Air Force sustainable, capacity-driven model for presenting forces, consisting of a 24-month cycle with four 6-month phases.
AFFORGEN: Reset Phase
The first phase of the cycle focusing on reintegration, reconstitution, and building personnel and hardware resiliency.
Execute Order (EXORD)
A directive to implement an approved military course of action, authorized only by the President and the SecDef.
Warning Order (WARNORD)
A preliminary notice of an order or action that is to follow.
Air Force Incident Management System (AFIMS)
The Air Force specific implementation of NIMS and the National Response Plan.
Disaster Response Force (DRF)
The primary Air Force structure for installation-level emergency response, consisting of First Responders, Emergency Responders, and the EOC.
Incident Commander (IC)
The person who provides on-scene tactical control and is responsible for establishing command and protecting life and property.
Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
The installation's C2 node for large-scale incidents, normally directed by the Mission Support Group (MSG) Commander.
Crisis Action Team (CAT)
A limited version of the EOC activated for specific incidents that are not of a large scale and can be resolved without drastic mission impact.
Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC)
A state-to-state mutual aid system that allows states to request and receive assistance from other member states during disasters.
Giant Voice (GV)
An alerting system utilized by C2 Controllers to notify the base populace of emergencies or weather via sirens and voice announcements.
Primary Crash Alarm System (PCAS)
A direct line telephone net for rapid relay of emergency information to the Control Tower, Fire Department, Medical Facility, and Airfield Management.
Secondary Crash Net (SCN)
A phone net used to notify additional agencies (CP, WX, EM, SF, etc.) after the PCAS has been activated.
AtHoc
A web-based Emergency Mass Notification System (EMNS) that sends alerts via desktop pop-ups, email, and telephone.
