Anterior

An anatomical directional term referring to the front portion of the brain as depicted in a medial view.

Posterior

An anatomical directional term referring to the back portion of the brain as depicted in a medial view.

Medial view

A sectional perspective showing the internal midline structures of the brain.

Cerebrum

The major outer region of the brain shown in the medial view.

Corpus callosum

A central brain structure located superior to the diencephalon in the medial view.

Diencephalon

A central region of the brain that encompasses the thalamus and hypothalamus.

Thalamus

A structure located within the diencephalon region of the brain.

Hypothalamus

A structure located within the diencephalon, positioned inferior/anterior relative to the thalamus.

Brainstem

A primary brain region composed of the midbrain, pons, and medulla oblongata.

Midbrain

The superior portion of the brainstem located directly below the diencephalon.

Pons

The middle section of the brainstem situated between the midbrain and the medulla oblongata.

Medulla oblongata

The inferior section of the brainstem located below the pons.

Cerebellum

A major structure located on the posterior side of the brain, behind the brainstem.
