What are the four things all organisms need? What is the purpose of each?
Air – gas exchange
Water – chemical reactions and transport
Nutrients – energy and building materials
Living Space – provides shelter and resources
Memory Hint: All Wild Squirrels Nap
What are the 8 characteristics of life?
Cells
Homeostasis
Energy Use
Reproduction
Response to Stimuli
Growth and Development
Genetic Code (DNA)
Evolution
Memory Hint: Cool Hippos Eat Really Tasty Green Red Cherries
Explain how organisms are made of cells and maintain Homeostasis
cells:unicellular & multicellular
Maintain Homeostasis: The ability to maintain internal conditions in response to environmental changes
Explain how organisms use energy and reproduce
Use energy: ATP powers daily functions and repair/replacement of damage cells
Reproduce:
Sexual reproduction: Two parents produce offspring with different genes
Asexual reproduction: Single parent produce offering that is identical to parent, called a clone
Explain how organisms pass traits to offspring and grow
Pass traits: passed on through gene found in DNA(occurs during asexual or sexual reproduction)
Grow: can grow larger by cells increasing in number or size
Explain how organisms respond to changes in their environment And change overtime
Respond: Internal stimulus and external stimulus
Change overtime: Neutral selection(Individuals cannot evolve, Only population can)
