Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+)

Coenzyme: Small, organic, non-protein molecule that carries a chemical group between enzymes (NAD+).

Is an electron carrier.

NADH ---→ NAD+ + H+ (Oxidation)

NAD+ + H+ ---→ NADH (Reduction)

When in NADH form, it holds 2 electrons which it can give off when oxidized:

NAD+ + H+ --→(2e-) NADH (Reduction)

NAD+ + H+ <--- NADH (Oxidation)

Need 2 negative charges to make NADH, hence the 2e-

Flavin Adenine Dinucleotide (FAD)
Is also a coenzyme

FADH2 --→ FAD + 2H+ (Oxidation)
