The 15th most abundant element in the earth's crust.

Carbon in Earth's Crust

Exists as $0.02\%$ in the form of minerals like carbonates, hydrogen carbonates, coal, and petroleum.

Carbon in the Atmosphere

Found primarily as $CO_2$ with a concentration of $0.03\%$, and also contains traces of $CO$.

Shells of Aquatic Animals

Structures made from calcium carbonate.

Identification of Carbon Compounds

Confirmed by burning, which produces $CO_2$, a colourless and odourless gas.
