Buddha
An enlightened person who has overcome the main sources of suffering.
Samsara
The cycle of life, death, and rebirth.
Dukkha
Suffering or dissatisfaction that Buddhists seek to overcome.
Enlightenment
A state of spiritual wisdom and freedom from rebirth through understanding reality.
Bodhisattva
An enlightened being who chooses to remain in samsara to help others achieve enlightenment.
Anatta
The idea that there is no unchanging essence to us; no fixed soul.
Four Noble Truths
The Buddha's teachings about suffering and its cessation.
Eightfold Path
The path consisting of eight practices essential for achieving enlightenment.
Trinity
The Christian doctrine that God exists as three persons in one essence: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Salvation
Being saved from sin and given eternal life by God.
Atonement
Making amends for sin; Jesus' death atoned for everyone's sins.
Resurrection
Jesus' return to life three days after his crucifixion.
Divorce
The legal dissolution of a marriage.
Cohabitation
Living together without being married, often in a romantic relationship.
Contraception
Methods used to prevent pregnancy during sexual intercourse.
Natural Law
God's moral code as expressed in the natural world.
Parable of the Sheep and Goats
A biblical parable illustrating the final judgement regarding how one's actions reflect their faith.
Same-Sex Marriage
Marriage between two people of the same sex.
Holiness
The state of being sacred, divine, or worthy of respect.
Tanha
Craving or desire, identified as a cause of suffering in Buddhist teachings.
Mara
The evil one who tempted Siddhartha from his meditation.
Sukhavati
The Pure Land, a paradise in Mahayana Buddhism.
