The Dermis
A Strong, flexible connective tissue, 2 Layers(Innervated and vascular)
What are the key features of the papillary layer?
Superficial 20% of dermis, capillary network, dermal papillae connect epidermis, free nerve endings (pain), Meissner’s corpuscles (touch), ridges form fingerprints.
What are key features of the reticular layer?
Deeper thick layer with dense irregular CT, collagen/elastin, larger vessels/glands, flexure lines at joints, Pacinian corpuscles for pressure
Hypodermis
Not really a layer of skin, insulation, shock absorption, support for upper skin layers
Pacinian Corpuscles
looks like onion in cross section, detect deep pressure and vibration. Pressure, pressin, Pacinian
Ruffini’s corpuscles
Detect Heat and skin stretch, Ruffini=Warm and stretchy
Krause’s End bulb
Detect cold sensation, krause=cold
