Pawpaw
It exhibits clonal growth, forming thickets or small colonies. Pawpaw leaves can be up to 1 foot long, and are odorous when bruised. Tolerant of shade, but appears to die out in old-growth forests. Does not spread into either early- or late-successional forest types. Fruits are consumed by raccoons, gray foxes, opossums, squirrels, and black bears, white-tailed deer browse.
