gender

the behavioral characteristics that people associate boy, girl, man, and women

sex(medical term)

the biologically influenced characteristics by which people define male, female, and intersex.

x chromosome

the sex chromosome found found in both female and males females typically have 2 x chromosomes; males typically have 1. an x chromosome from 2 parents typically result in a female child

y chromosome

the sex chromosome found only in males. when paired with and x chromosome from the mother it produces a male child.

gender rule

a set of expected behaviors, attitudes, and traits for men and women

gender identity

our personal sense of being male, female, neither, or a combination of male and female

asexual

having no sexual attraction towards others

sexual orientation

the direction of our sexual attractions, as reflected in our longngs and fantasys

sensation

the process by which our sensory receptors and nervous system receive and represent stimulus energies from our environments

perception

the process by which our brain organizes and interprets sensory information. transforming it into meaningful objects and events

hypnosis

a social interaction in which one person (the hypnost) suggests to another person (the subject) that certain perceptions, feelings thoughts, or behaviors will spontaneously occur
