An overall state of well-being or total health
Longevity
How long a person will live
Lifestyle factors
Personal behaviors and habits related to the way a person lives, that help determine his or her level of health
Promoting good health
Getting 8-10 hours of sleep, eating a healthy breakfast, eating nutritious foods, being physically active, maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs, abstaining from sexual activity before marriage, managing stress, maintaining positive relationships, and practicing safe behaviors to prevent injury
Prevention
Practicing health & safety habits to remain free of disease & injury
Physical activity
Any form of movement that causes your body to use energy
Benefits of regular physical activity
Improved body strength, increased energy levels, improved posture, reduces chronic fatigue and stiffness, strengthens muscles and bones, and reduces disease risk
Cardiovascular system
Strengthened heart through regular physical activity
Respiratory system
Strengthens breathing when engaging in physical activity
Nervous system
Regulates stress & anxiety through physical activity
Benefits of physical activity on mental/emotional health
Reduce stress, improve sleep, manage stress, improve mood, increase self-confidence, reduce mental fatigue, provide pride and accomplishment, and improve concentration for clear thoughts
Benefits of physical activity on social health
Increases self-confidence, provides opportunity to interact with others, and enhances relationships with others
Sedentary lifestyle
A way of life that involves little to no physical activity
Risks of physical inactivity
Unhealthy weight gain, increased chance of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer & osteoporosis, stress & decreased socialization, and fewer opportunities to meet & form friendships
