Body language
Non-verbal communication made up of facial expressions, gestures, posture, and proximity.
Present Effectively
The seven components used to communicate a message well: eye contact, posture, gesture, grooming, tone, expression, and speech.
Positive Approach
Body language signals that show engagement, including open posture, eye contact, nodding, and leaning forward.
Negative Approach
Body language signals that show disengagement or defensiveness, including crossed arms, phone checking, looking away, and slouching.
Intimate Proximity Zone
The closest zone of physical distance, measuring between 0 and 0.6m.
Personal Proximity Zone
The zone of physical distance measuring between 0.6 and 1.5m.
Social Proximity Zone
The zone of physical distance measuring between 1.5 and 3.6m.
Public Proximity Zone
The furthest zone of physical distance, starting at 3.6m.
55-38-7 Rule
A rule stating that effective communication is composed of 55% body language, 38% tone, and 7% words.
