Originally Frederick Bailey, abolitionist, writer, big symbol in the slave abolition movement. The narrator.
Harriet Bailey
Frederick’s mom, seperated at birth, died when fred was 7
Captain Anthony
Douglas first master, overseer of colonel Lloyds plantation. very cruel
Colonel Lloyd
wealthy landowner, owns many plantations and hundreds of enslavedpeople
The plantation of Captain Anthony
This is the plantation where Fred lives. This is important because it’s where Frederick lived as a slave.
The Plantation that Harriet Bailey is at
Where his mom would live and go back and fourth from. This is important because she was forced to be seperated from her child and suffer alone.
Conflict 1
Frederick never knowing his father. The problem is how his father was rumored to be his master. It is a man vs. self conflict because it makes him question his whole heritage. It also highlights how slavery strips people of identity.
Conflict 2
Frederick and his mom being seperated. The problem is how this shows slavery seperates families. It is a man vs. society problem because Frederick wants to be with his family and can’t because society won’t allow it.
Dehumanization
I see dehumanization emerging because it is starting to show how slavery robs people of families, identity, and basic human dignity.
