Focusing your mind on something without distraction.

What is perception?

The process of organizing and interpreting what we see to make sense of the world.

What is evidence in the context of visual observation?

Visual details that support an observation or interpretation.

What is the definition of purpose?

The reason why something is done, made, or exists, an intended goal, or a strong sense of determination.

How is communication defined?

The active process of sending, receiving, and sharing information, thoughts, ideas, or feelings between people to build mutual understanding.

What is commemoration?

An action, event, or physical object that honors the memory of a past person or important historical event.

What is persuasion?

The act of communicating to someone to change their mind, agree with a plan, or do something new.

How is self expression defined?

The process of using creative mediums like painting, writing, or music to externally communicate inner thoughts, deep emotions, and personal identity.

What is commentary?

A spoken or written series of remarks, explanations, or opinions that describe an event, analyze a text, or illustrate a situation.

What is a ritual?

A set of actions done in the same way every time.

What defines a two-dimensional artwork or shape?

Width and height but no thickness. Examples include Squares, Circles, Triangles.

What defines a three-dimensional object?

Having or appearing to have length, breadth, and depth.

What is a line in visual art?

A long, narrow mark or band.

How is shape defined?

A flat, enclosed area of an artwork created through lines, textures, colors or an area enclosed by other shapes such as triangles, circles, and squares.

What is form?

A core design element that refers to a three-dimensional object having length, width, and depth.

What is emphasis in an artwork?

An area or object within the artwork that draws attention and becomes a focal point.

What is a focal point?

The area in the composition to which the viewer's eye is naturally drawn.

What are directional forces?

Pathways that the artist embeds in a work for the viewer's eye to follow.

How is contrast defined in visual art?

Difference between art elements like color, value, size, texture, and so on can intensify the elements used.

How is rhythm usually achieved in art?

Through repetition of lines, shapes, colors, and more.

What is repetition?

A recurrence of a particular line, pattern, shape, or other visual elements in a single or part of the series.

What is scale?

The size relation of one thing to another proportion.

What is visual hierarchy?

The arrangement of elements according to their visual importance.

What is composition?

The placement or arrangement of visual elements or 'ingredients' in a work of art.

How is pattern defined?

An underlying structure that organizes surfaces or structures in a consistent, regular manner.

What is balance in a composition?

The sense of distribution of perceived visual weights that offset one another.

How is symmetrical balance achieved?

By arranging elements on either side of the center of a composition in an equally weighted manner.

What is asymmetrical balance?

When each half is different but has equal visual weight.

What is layering?

Arranging visual elements over, behind, or in relation to one another to build complexity and spatial relationships.

What is depth in visual art?

The perceived distance between foreground and background or between elements within a work.

What is hue?

The traditional color name given to a specific wavelength of light in the light spectrum.

How is value defined in color theory?

The relative lightness or darkness of a color.

What is color?

The element of art that is produced when light, striking an object, is reflected back to the eye.

What is a shade?

Adding black to a color.

What is a tint?

Adding white to a color.
