Atomic Orbital
The area of space where you’re likely to find n electron in the atoms nucleus
Molecular Orbital
The area of space where you’re likely to find the bonding electrons in a molecule
Why do symmetrical molecules form?
Because the electrons are equally attracted
What happens when there is a large different in electronegativities?
The bonding molecular orbital will be asymmetrical.
When the polarity different increases and moves towards an ionic substance, it becomes even more asymmetric.
Are individual molecular orbitals symmetrical or asymmetrical?
They are ASYMMETRICAL as electrons are more attracted to the electronegative element
