1. What is greenware?
Clay that hasn’t been fired

No we do not glaze greenware because the glaze will not stick

It is liquid wax applied to that prevents glaze from adhering to wherever the wax-resist is applied.

A glaze is the layer of glass fired to the ceramic surface
6. What is the difference between oxidation and reduction?
- Oxidation is firing ceramics with plenty of oxygen. Usually in an electric kiln.
- Reduction is firing with a reduced amount of oxygen. Must be in a gas kiln.
7. Why do we score and slip clay when joining 2 pieces of clay?
So the 2 pieces of clay stick together with a strong bond
8. What are 3 main reasons we wedge clay?Â
- To remove air pockets
- To distribute moisture
- To align clay particles
9. What are the differences between earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain?
- Earthenware - Low fired clay often red also known as terra-cotta
- Stoneware - High-fired clay which has a combination of different types of clay particles
- Porcelain - high-fired Kaolin Clay body free of iron and with small clay particles. all the same particles
10. If I put a bisque pot in the reclaim bucket, how long will it take to become Soft usable clay?
Never, once it's fired it will never be soft usable clay again.
11. At what temp. do we fire bisqueware?
Bisqueware is fired at 1751 °F (first firing)
12. At what temp. do we fire a glaze?
Glaze is fired at 2232 °F
